Historic districts

H istoric districts are wonderful places for a stroll.
In some castle towns tourists can see the rows of old residences of samurai as well as old wealthy merchant’s houses and store buildings.  They have been conserved for their architectural value.  Some of them are open to the public.
Along old highways, designated in Edo period (in the early 17th century), post stations with a group of traditional old inns have been preserved, too. Some are still used as Minshuku ( a private house providing lodging).
In such areas people are kind and time passes slowly.  Visitors may feel as if they have been transported back in time to samurai period.
